Policies
IRON SERPENT JIU-JITSU: GYM POLICIES & CODE OF CONDUCT 1. Hygiene & Safety (The Golden Rules) Cleanliness is Mandatory: Always wear a clean, dry Gi or No-Gi attire to every class. If your gear smells, you will be asked to change or sit out. Trim Your Nails: Keep finger and toe nails trimmed short and smooth to prevent scratching your training partners. Footwear: Never walk off the mats barefoot. Shoes or sandals must be worn in the restrooms and common areas. Never wear shoes on the mats. Open Wounds/Infections: Do not train if you have an open cut, skin infection (staph, ringworm, etc.), or feel ill. Cover all minor scratches with athletic tape. 2. On the Mats Punctuality: Arrive 10–15 minutes early. If you arrive late, wait at the edge of the mat for the instructor’s permission to join the class. The Tap: Respect "The Tap" immediately. Whether it is physical or verbal, once a partner taps, release the submission instantly. We train for longevity, not ego. Focus: Minimize "mat chat" during instruction. Save socialization for before or after class so everyone can focus on the technique. Controlled Sparring: Match your partner's intensity. If you are a higher belt training with a beginner, focus on technical flow rather than overwhelming force. 3. Gym Etiquette Respect Everyone: Treat all instructors, staff, and fellow students with respect, regardless of rank, age, or gender. Ego at the Door: Iron Serpent is a place of learning. Getting caught in a submission is part of the process—embrace the lesson. Uniform Standards: Ensure your Gi or training gear is free of offensive patches or excessive rips. 4. Membership & Billing Cancellations: We require [30 days] written notice for any membership cancellations or pauses. Payments: All monthly dues are processed via autopay on the [1st/15th] of the month. Injuries: If you sustain an injury that prevents training, please notify management immediately to discuss a membership hold.
